Xiaopu Tangerine 2024
Grape Varietals & Region: A blend of Chardonnay, Italian Riesling, Viognier, Petit Manseng, Gewürztraminer, and Muscat. The fruit comes from Ningxia, China
While the primary style of Ningxia wines are oaky, full-bodied Cabernet Sauvignon-based reds, that isn’t all it produces. There are also winemakers who innovate, experimenting with small production. This is the case of Ian Dai who, with Xiao Pu (literally “small garden”), offers Natural Style / Low-intervention wines from Ningxia (and Yunnan) grapes
Taste Profile: Chardonnay brings body, Riesling and Petit Manseng add acidity and structure, Viognier contributes floral notes, and Gewürztraminer adds richness. The wine shows aromas of dried orange peel, kumquat, and oolong tea, lifted by jasmine and lychee. Soft tannins, a round texture, and crisp acidity create a balanced, expressive orange wine from China.
Winemaking Process: Fermented with indigenous yeasts and aged eight months in old oak
