Cooper Cellars Los Angeles Barba Blanca 2023
Michael Cooper has lived in Spain since he was 23 years old and has made wines in several wine regions, especially in Aragón: in Somontano, Cariñena and especially in Campo de Borja where he has built his own winery and collaborates closely with others in the appellation. It is precisely in Campo de Borja where he is developing his project Los Ángeles, a name that comes from the genesis of the city where he went to university and 2 close grape grower friends of his named Ángel and that he feels blessed to have the opportunity to grow wines.
Currently his vineyards are in organic conversion and are cared for with biodynamic preparations. All the wines of the Los Angeles line follow the guidelines of “Vins Méthode Nature”. Michael's creations are special as they reflect the delicate aromas and flavors of the unique terroirs, without interpositions and with a minimalist intervention that obeys his motto: “clean, pure, energetic”.
Grape Varietals & Region: 100% Macabeo. The fruit comes from a single vineyard site in high altitude mountain site of Campo de Borja in Aragon, Spain
Taste Profile: The lemongrass and jasmine on the nose aren’t shaded by its poached pear, nectarine and apple character. Fragrant, flavorful and pretty deep and phenolic, with a full body and a fresh, creamy finish.
Winemaking Process: The fruit was hand-harvested and then vinified in 3 ways: in temperature controlled stainless steel tanks, in a 500L French oak puncheon and on its skins to create a ‘white’ wine like no other. It has an intense aroma of pears and figs and honey and the texture is soft and silky. The wine is long on the palate and ideal for Asian cuisine, fish and soft cheeses
