Unkel Wines Red "Jurassic" 2023

From Unkel Wines' "fun Uncle" series, they strive to make cruisy, fun & slightly wild wines, making minimal interventionist wines that work with Mother Nature, rather than being the overbearing parents of their grapes

Rob and Kate Burley have since 2019 been organically farming a picturesque 5.5 Hectare vineyard in Nelson, planted with Pinot Noir, Chardonnay, Pinot Gris & Riesling. As the ‘Unkel’, they always allow the wine to do the talking, leading its own life through fermentation and ageing in the winery providing what they believe is the most honest expression of the fruit that they started with.

Grape Varietals: Blend of Pinot Noir, Merlot & Gewurztraminer from Nelson, New Zealand. 

Taste Profile: A Medium bodied red showing bright plum, cherry and bubble gum with a savoury tomato stalk and clove spice. Soft, fleshy and luscious with supple tannin.

Winemaking Process: The Fruit was de-stemmed and fermented on skins for 5-7 days and aged in a mixture of old puncheons and stainless steel.
