Stones + Thunder Echoes of Fury Cabernet Blend 2023

Sitting in the heart of the Wilyabrup, Stones + Thunder began when Darran Stone & family left South Africa to build something new - a family legacy grounded in authenticity. They didn’t arrive with a dynasty or a grand estate, just a single block and a belief that if they listened closely enough, the land would speak for itself. 

And the world noticed. Founded in 2022, they burst onto the scene with some of the most amazing wines. Well awarded by James Halliday & others, they have recently been named in the Top 50 Wine Producers worldwide by the IWSC

Grape Varietals & Region: A classic Bordeaux blend  from the Wilyabrup subregion of Margaret River in Western Australia. Coming from their Wagtail vineyard, it is made up of Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Cabernet Franc, Malbec, and Petit Verdot

Taste Profile: Smooth dark cherry, plum, and dark berry fruits. It features a focused, site-driven expression with notes of graphite, fine yet rich tannins, and a savoury, concentrated length

Winemaking Process: The grapes were night-harvested from our single vineyard in Wilyabrup, ensuring cool temperatures to preserve freshness and structure. Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot were fermented in stainless steel tanks, while Petit Verdot, Malbec, and Cabernet Franc underwent fermentation in small open top fermenters for enhanced varietal expression. Gentle pump-overs and hand plunging maintained balance, extracting fine tannins without over-extraction. Post fermentation, the wines were pressed to 100% seasoned French oak barrels for 16 months of maturation, allowing integration of fruit, tannin, and texture. Careful blending before bottling ensured a wine that reflects the vineyard’s depth, structure, and the vintage’s signature balance.
