Nikolaihof Grüner Veltliner Federspiel Steinterrassen Late Release 2012
The Grüner Veltliner Steinterrassen 2012 from Nikolaihof in the Wachau is a matured Austrian white wine with eleven years of barrel ageing, which impressively reflects the mineral diversity of the Mautern vineyard sites ranging from loess to amphibolite.
Grape Varietals & Region: 100% Grüner Veltliner in Federspiel quality, from Wachau in Austria.
The grapes come from various vineyards around Mautern in the Wachau. Warmer sites with high loess content (Silberbichl, Am Zaum) meet cooler, north-facing parcels (Bischofspoint, Weingebirge) with amphibolite and paragneiss soils. This diversity of terroirs gives the wine its remarkable complexity
Taste Profile: Pale golden yellow with green reflexes. Fragrant and deep with herbal spice, subtle waxy notes, zesty accents and stony-earthy nuances; the fruit recedes after the long maturation
Initially round and silky, then with pressing acidity; spice of dried herbs, stone and zests, citric notes, long finish with waxy maturation notes
Winemaking Process: Eleven years of maturation in large wooden barrel; grapes from various vineyard sites with different soil types (loess, amphibolite, paragneiss); biodynamic cultivation according to Demeter standards at the traditional Nikolaihof estate
