Over 200 years ago, an ancient Roman settlement called CARE made the first grape juices in Aragon. The city of Carinena today, sits on the same land as this Roman settlement, upon which is the origin of Garnacha. Located in Carinena DO, Bodegas Care was setup in 2000 by the Aragonese families Díaz and Lázaro, who came together to produce contemporary Mediterranean wines. In 2003, they released their first wine, Finca Bancales
Grape Varietals & Region: 100% Garnacha from old vines of over 80 years old. This comes as a single vineyard wine from the Finca Bancales vineyard in Carinena, Aragon, Spain
The vineyard lies about 600 metres above sea level, with balanced soils of clay, quartzites and some chalk on the western side. It's a low fertile soil with high carbonate content
Taste Profile: The wine shows an attractive red color with bright reflections. Aromas of clean blackberry fruit accompanied by mocha and spice. The palate displays sweet fruit characters dominated by blackberry and plum, complimented by cinnamon, clove and nutmeg characters. The wine is full bodied with natural tannin and oak maturation adding texture and complexity to the wine.
Winemaking Process: After alcoholic fermentation, the wine remains macerated with the skins for 15 days. The malolactic fermentation takes place in tanks. The wine is then transferred to French oak barrels, where it ages for 12 months
